The PiggyPower Cell 250 is a water-cooled thermoelectric generator designed to demonstrate the Seebeck effect and the direct conversion of heat into electrical power. It is intended for hands-on experimentation, off-grid projects, and educational environments where higher continuous power generation is desired.
Each PiggyPower unit is built to order. Minor cosmetic differences may exist between units, but all performance and functionality remain the same. Includes Limited Workmanship Warranty and access to the PiggyPower Lifetime Service Rebuild Program. See our Warranty, Terms, and Service Policy for full details.
LONGEVITY & RELIABILITY
This is a solid-state thermoelectric generator with no moving parts, no bearings, no combustion, and no mechanical wear surfaces. Under proper thermal management, solid-state thermoelectric systems can operate for many years. Unlike solar inverters, wind turbines, or fuel-based generators, there are no engines to seize, no gearboxes to wear, and no routine maintenance cycles.
This system is designed to be a long-term power asset, not a disposable consumer product.
WHAT THE PIGGYPOWER CELL 250 DOES
When supplied with a controlled heat source and adequate cooling, the PiggyPower Cell 250 can generate up to 250 watts of electrical power. The Cell 250 is rated using a maximum-output benchmark of 32°F (0°C) cold-side cooling and up to 374°F (190°C) hot-side temperature. Normal operation should be kept at or below 338°F (170°C) whenever possible, while the upper range is intended for maximum-output testing with strong active water cooling.
The current Cell 250 uses a lower-voltage, higher-current internal configuration designed to work safely with the included power conditioning electronics.
At high-output operating conditions, the raw generator output is approximately 13 to 15 V under load, with total current increasing as more heat is applied. The final usable output does not need to match the raw generator voltage. The included electronics regulate and condition the power so users can select a usable DC output voltage for their setup, such as 12 V, 24 V, or other supported settings within the electronics range.
This means the PiggyPower Cell 250 does not need to “naturally” produce the exact voltage your device uses. The cell produces raw thermoelectric power, and the included electronics convert that power into a more usable output for batteries, lighting, pumps, communications gear, and other compatible DC loads.
Actual output depends on the temperature difference between the hot side and cold side of the unit, the effectiveness of the cooling setup, the heat source, and the electrical load being powered. This system produces electricity continuously as long as heat and cooling are maintained. There are no moving parts inside the generator itself.
COMPLETE, READY-TO-RUN KIT
Every PiggyPower Cell 250 is sold as a complete system. Each kit includes everything required to operate the generator out of the box.
What’s included:
- One fully assembled PiggyPower Cell 250 generator block
- Integrated cold-side water cooling block
- Water pump for active cooling
- Cooling hoses and fittings
- Dual adjustable DC power conditioning modules for delivering usable regulated output
- Pre-wired electrical leads
- Basic operating instructions and educational overview
You only need to provide a heat source and water. No additional electronics, controllers, or fabrication are required.
(Stove, fire source, fuel, and water container are not included.)
HEAT SOURCE COMPATIBILITY
The PiggyPower Cell 250 is designed to operate with a wide range of controlled heat sources, including propane stoves with adjustable output, wood stoves with moderated surface temperature, enclosed fire platforms, and any heat source that can be reliably kept within safe operating limits.
The generator must always be placed on a solid intermediary surface such as a metal plate or skillet. Direct flame contact with the generator block is not permitted.
COOLING REQUIREMENTS
Active water cooling is required for proper operation. The included pump circulates water through the cold-side block to maintain a temperature differential. Cooling water may be supplied from a bucket or container, a stream, pond, or other body of water, or open-loop or closed-loop circulation systems.
Improved cooling directly increases electrical output.
INTENDED USE
This kit is intended for learning and experimentation with thermoelectric generators, off-grid projects requiring sustained output, demonstrations of heat-to-electric conversion, STEM education and technical training, and continuous power generation experiments.
PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The PiggyPower Cell 250 measures 12” × 12” and weighs approximately 16 lb. The larger footprint supports increased thermoelectric capacity and heat transfer surface area, allowing the system to produce higher continuous electrical output when supplied with proper heat and active water cooling.
FINAL DISCLAIMER AND SAFETY INFORMATION
The PiggyPower Cell 250 is an educational and experimental device, not a certified consumer power appliance.
Normal recommended hot-side operation is at or below 338°F (170°C). For the PiggyPower Cell 250, maximum-output benchmarking may be performed up to 374°F (190°C) with strong active water cooling. Do not exceed 374°F (190°C) hot-side temperature. Exceeding 392°F (200°C) can permanently damage the thermoelectric device. Running near maximum temperature may reduce service intervals.
The user is fully responsible for temperature monitoring, fire safety, water circulation, electrical handling, and overall safe operation. A digital thermometer or thermal probe is strongly recommended.
This kit is not intended for use as a primary power source, automotive electrical systems, bulk battery charging, emergency medical power, life-support equipment, or any mission-critical system. All generated electricity must be regulated, stored, or used responsibly.
Each unit is tested prior to shipment, and operational video documentation is retained. Due to the custom-built nature of PiggyPower products, all sales are final except in cases of verified shipping damage or a covered issue under the Limited Workmanship Warranty. Signature delivery is required.
