The PiggyPower TEG 5 is a 40mm x 40mm bare thermoelectric generator module intended for experimentation, prototyping, and hands-on evaluation of thermoelectric power generation. It gives customers a lower-cost entry point into the technology without stepping straight into a finished power unit. This listing is for the module only, with attached lead wires. No heat sink, water block, enclosure, controller, boost converter, thermal interface material, or mounting system is included.

The PiggyPower TEG 5 is a good fit for educational use, bench testing, custom low-power projects, and controlled experimentation. At the same time, it should not be viewed as a shortcut to a finished PiggyPower Cell. A completed PiggyPower system depends on controlled clamping, thermal management, heat spreading, cooling, and overall system integration that are not included with a raw module. That is exactly why our finished PiggyPower Cells exist. The TEG 5 is offered as an entry point for learning and experimentation, while our finished cells are for customers who want a more complete and engineered solution.

For clarity, the chart below uses a 50°F fresh tap water cold-side reference. It is intended as a practical guide, not a blanket guarantee. Real output depends on how well the cold side is maintained, how flat and even the contact surfaces are, the quality of the thermal interface, the actual hot-side temperature, and the electrical load connected to the module. We recommend designing around 170°C hot-side operation for a strong balance of output, consistency, and module longevity.

At the recommended 170°C hot-side reference point, this module clears the 5 watt class when the cold side is actively held near 50°F with fresh tap water. If the cold side warms up, output falls. If cooling is weak, uneven, or stagnant, the numbers drop. Thermoelectric output depends heavily on maintaining temperature difference.

Because this is a bare module, the user is responsible for proper handling and safe installation. These are precision ceramic devices and they can be damaged by misuse. Uneven clamping can crack the ceramic. Excessive force can damage the module. Poor thermal contact can create hot spots. Overheating can shorten life or cause failure. Pulling, flexing, or straining the lead exits can damage the electrical connections. Running the hot side aggressively while the cold side loses cooling can destroy the module quickly. Rapid thermal shock should also be avoided. Customers looking for a more complete, better-controlled, ready-to-use solution should start with one of our finished PiggyPower Cells.

Important performance note: The reference chart on this page assumes the cold side is actively maintained near 50°F with fresh tap water. Real-world output will vary with cooling quality, clamping, thermal interface quality, heat source stability, and electrical load. These modules are intended for customers who understand that thermoelectric systems require careful mechanical and thermal design.
